Everything About Replacement Pods & Pod Cartridges

What are replacement pods / refill cartridges? These are the replaceable tanks for pod system e-cigarettes. They contain the e-liquid and the atomizer head (coil), which is responsible for vapor production. Since the coil is a wear part, these cartridges need to be replaced regularly to ensure optimal flavor and good vapor production. They are available as empty pods for self-filling or, more rarely in open systems, as prefilled variants.

The timely replacement of your pod is crucial for a good vaping experience. Here you will learn what to pay attention to when buying (selection criteria) and how to recognize when it is time for a new pod (replacement frequency).

🎯 Finding the right replacement pod

  • Device compatibility: The pod MUST fit your model exactly.
  • ⚙️Coil resistance: Must match your vaping style & e-liquid.
  • 🧩Pod type: With fixed or replaceable coil?
  • 📦Pack size: Often available in packs of 2 or 4.

⚙️ Types of pod cartridges

  • 🔄Pods with built-in coil: The entire pod is replaced.
  • 💰Empty pods for replaceable coils: Only the coil is replaced.
  • 💧Prefilled pods: For closed systems.

⏱️ When should you replace the pod or coil?

  • 👅Flavor: Reduced or burnt taste.
  • ☁️Vapor production: Noticeably less vapor than usual.
  • E-liquid absorption: Gurgling noises or e-liquid in the mouthpiece.

💡 Tip: Depending on usage intensity and liquid type, a pod/coil lasts about 1-3 weeks. Fruity and sweet e-liquids as well as nicotine salt liquids tend to wear out coils faster.

🔍 Pay attention to compatibility!

Make absolutely sure to check the exact model name! Pods for "Caliburn G", for example, do not fit the "Caliburn G3". Even small differences in the model name can mean the pods are not compatible.

At VAPE.CH, you can use the filter function to search specifically for replacement pods for your model, or feel free to contact us if you are unsure.

⭐ Popular brands for replacement pods:

We carry original replacement pods for all common pod systems, including: Uwell Caliburn (G, G2, A2, G3, etc.), Vaporesso (XROS, Luxe, etc.), GeekVape (Aegis, Wenax), VooPoo (Drag, Vinci) and Smok.

💧 Which e-liquid for my pod?

⚠️ Please note:

E-liquid that is too thick in pods with high resistance can lead to dry hits and a burnt taste.

If you are unsure, we recommend using the e-liquid recommended by the manufacturer for your pod type.

Find the right original replacement pods for your device now and enjoy full flavor again when vaping. If you have any questions about compatibility, we are happy to help!

The lifespan of a replacement pod or coil depends on how often you vape, how long your puffs are, the power level, and which e-liquid you use. As a general rule, most users replace a pod or coil after about 1 to 3 weeks of average use.

  • Flavour drops off: Your liquid tastes weaker, duller, or less clean.
  • Burnt or dry taste: A clear sign that the cotton inside the coil is worn or damaged.
  • Less vapour: The device produces noticeably less vapour than before.
  • Gurgling or leaking: A worn pod or coil can also start to flood or lose sealing performance.

Sweet, dark, or heavily sweetened liquids often shorten coil life faster than simpler liquids. If the flavour no longer tastes right, it is usually time for a new replacement pod or coil.

💡 Tip: Keep spare pods or coils at home so you can replace them immediately when flavour starts to drop.

This is the most important question when buying replacement cartridges. Pods are usually device-specific, which means you need the exact pod made for your pod system model.

  1. Check the exact device name: Look for the full product name on your pod system or original box, for example a specific Caliburn, XROS, Kiwi, or Flexus model.
  2. Read the product description carefully: On our replacement pod pages, we state which devices are compatible.
  3. Check the coil family too: If your pod uses replaceable coils, make sure both the pod and the coil series match your device.
  4. Compare the image and shape: This helps confirm the connection style, fill port position, and pod design.
  5. Ask support if unsure: Our customer service can help you find the right pod immediately.

Never buy a pod just because it looks similar. If it is not clearly listed for your exact device, it may not fit or perform correctly.

The ohm value shows the resistance of the coil inside the pod or cartridge. It has a direct impact on draw style, vapour production, warmth, nicotine suitability, and e-liquid consumption.

Higher resistance pods

Examples: 1.0Ω, 1.2Ω

  • Draw style: Tighter MTL draw, more cigarette-like.
  • Vapour: More discreet and often a bit warmer.
  • Best for: Higher nicotine strengths and nicotine salt liquids.
  • Consumption: Lower e-liquid and battery consumption.

Lower resistance pods

Examples: 0.8Ω, 0.6Ω

  • Draw style: Airier RDL or DL draw.
  • Vapour: More vapour and a looser inhale.
  • Best for: Lower nicotine strengths and more open pod vaping.
  • Consumption: Higher e-liquid and battery usage.

💡 Tip: If you are switching from smoking and want a more familiar pull, start with a pod around 1.0Ω or higher.

Both systems are popular, and neither is universally better. The right choice depends on whether you value maximum simplicity or lower running costs and more flexibility.

Pods with integrated coils

Advantages: Very easy to use, clean, and convenient. When the coil is finished, you simply replace the entire pod.

Disadvantages: Usually less economical and less environmentally friendly because the whole pod is discarded.

Best for users who want the easiest possible maintenance.

Pods with replaceable coils

Advantages: More economical over time, less waste, and often more choice in coil resistance for the same pod.

Disadvantages: Slightly more work because the old coil must be removed and the new one installed correctly.

Best for users who want lower cost per change and more setup flexibility.

💡 Tip: If simplicity matters most, choose integrated-coil pods. If you want to save money and reduce waste, a replaceable-coil pod system is usually the better option.

Filling a refillable pod cartridge is easy, but doing it correctly helps prevent leaks and dry hits.

  1. Remove the pod from the battery device.
  2. Open the fill port by lifting the silicone plug or opening the filling section.
  3. Insert the e-liquid bottle tip into the correct fill hole, not into the centre airflow section.
  4. Fill slowly and do not overfill the pod. Leave a small air gap if possible.
  5. Close the pod securely so the seal is tight.
  6. Wait 5 to 10 minutes before vaping if the pod or coil is new. This lets the cotton absorb the liquid properly.
  7. Wipe away any excess liquid before reinserting the pod into the device.

💡 Tip: Priming a new pod or coil by waiting after filling is one of the easiest ways to avoid a burnt first puff.

Yes, you can use different liquids in the same pod, but there are a few things to keep in mind. The most important is flavour carryover, often called ghosting. Some of the previous liquid remains in the cotton and will mix with the next flavour.

  • Light flavour changes: Switching between similar fruit flavours is usually not a big problem.
  • Strong flavour carryover: Menthol, tobacco, coffee, or very sweet liquids can stay in the pod much longer.
  • Separate pods work best: If you want clean flavour, keep different pods for different liquid styles.
  • Cleaning options depend on the pod: Refillable pods with removable coils are easier to clean than sealed integrated-coil pods.

For users who rotate flavours often, having several spare pod cartridges is often the best solution.

💡 Tip: Use separate pods for menthol, tobacco, and dessert flavours if you want each liquid to taste clean and true.
